The 1970s was known as the area of disco. I don’t know much about the disco phenomenon other than it sparked numerous memorial songs, some interesting fashion choices and the undulating beat of chasing your passion with every fiber of your being. There was a song called Disco Inferno, and the tag line was “Burn, baby Burn”. I’m not sure what they were talking about, but when it comes to the flame inside of you, the flame of passion you have for your dream, I say “BURN, BABY, BURN”! Let nothing extinguish your flame of passion. It may take time. It may take sacrifice. It may take you leaving your comfort zone, but if you want it, go get it and let that passion BURN, BABY, BURN! There will be people that will tell you it can’t be done, shouldn’t be done, or it is not expedient or beneficial for you to even do. Instead of accepting their word as the final authority, make the decision yourself! Imagine if the person that invented the air conditioner gave up. How hot would it be during those steamy summer days? What about the person that invented ice cream? Everyone thought Ford was crazy with the idea of the horseless carriage. All of these things we now enjoy and think nothing about it, but each person had a passion to do something and they got it done. I have discovered people fall into two simple categories in my life; help and hindrance. I have discovered that someone against me can actually spur me on to prove them wrong, and someone that claims to help me can actually slow me down with their desire for me to do things the way they would. Let others live their dream and pursue their passions.
When you know what you want, go for it. Do the research, do comparative analysis on the best way to fulfill your passion, but let that passion flame “BURN BABY BURN”. Afraid your flame is flickering because it has burned so long with no additional fuel. Afraid your dream life is unobtainable, unreachable, or just not realistic? Talk to someone who has routinely defeated the impossible, made it possible. Someone who was told their goal is unobtainable and are currently living their dream. Let them help you, and that person is me! Let me help you light, ignite, fuel, sustain or increase your flame of passion so it can BURN, BABY, BURN! We all want to live a healthy life, but there just doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day to fulfill our responsibilities and get our optimum workout in. We have work, after work activities, maybe even a spouse or children; things that are important but also consume our time. I have learned it is not so much about the quantity of the workout, but the quality. I have seen people spend hours in the gym and come out looking worse than when they went in. You’ve seen the type. They spend more time taking “selfies” or taking 30 minute breaks in between every 2 repetitions of an ankle rotation exercise. When the finally leave the gym, still looking like they were going on an errand, fresh from the shower, versus the gym, they go to a fast food place, order the left side of the menu and a Green tea, (loaded with sugar of course) to be healthy. I have learned making simple changes in your life can lead to a healthy life. I hate running, but I don’t mind walking. I park a little further from buildings to get some extra walking or “steps” in. I have a goal for the day, the week, the month, to get a certain amount of “steps” in. This may not be the answer for everyone, but small adjustments (in whatever works for you) cause minimal inconvenience and can lead to maximum gains. You see the small steps can lead to bigger changes, and before you know it, the quantity of time is not as important as the quality. I have seen people watch their diet and only spend about an hour in the gym 3-5 times a week. They look good and feel good, but you see, they make every moment count. They take the stairs, instead of the elevator, whenever possible. They opt for the healthier choices at meal time, or pre-pack their meals to know what they are actually eating. The park a little further from the building to get their steps in. They choose water instead of Cokes. The path to a healthy purpose driven life begins with the first step. What are you waiting for? More time; probably won’t happen. An engraved invitation, well here it is….You are cordially invited, in whatever way works for you, to figuratively and literally “GET TO STEPP’IN” towards a healthier you! As long as you have breathe in your body, and the ability to “do”, chase your passion, chase your dream. The complexity of your life may make it a little more difficult. The responsibilities you have may make the pursuit of your passion a little more challenging, but it has been often said, anything worth having is worth working for. Want to be a painter? Take art classes and do it! Want to be a skydiver? Go to the training and do it! Want to just live life to the fullest and enjoy all it has to offer? What are you waiting for? Just do it! When we identify our passions and what we really want to do, we often feel it is impossible to do. There was a movie about a man who claimed to spend 90 minutes in heaven. He was in a major car accident and most had counted him dead. He lived, but they thought he would never walk again. His passion, his drive, his motivation, his desire to walk again had him walking out of the hospital in the time frame he spoke into existence. He had faith, and in his case, his faith sustained and kept him. Call it the universe returning, faith, fate, kismet, or whatever, speak your passions into existence by not just saying you want to do it, but you are doing it! Chase your dream! Chase your passion. We have but one life to live and why not live it with a purpose, on purpose as a life of purpose? I can help your dreams become a reality. The Bible tells us you reap what you sow. The world tells us we get out what we put in. These sayings deal with the concept of getting a return on our investment. If we desire massive results, we must be prepared to enact massive action. If we want to change our physique, we can’t just talk about, or think about it, we have to do something about it. We have to examine our diet, look at or develop a fitness program and do it. If want to change our fiscal fitness; we have to look at what are we spending our money on, where can we cut unnecessary cost and where can we invest, diversity or save to reach the fiscal picture we desire. If we desire a failing relationship to thrive, we have to determine what is important to us, determine what we are willing to do and do it. When we use minimum effort we can only expect minimum results. If you invest one hour of time a week with your child, to show him or her you love them, how effective will their concept of your love for them be manifested in their life. If you invest one day a month in fully doing your job, how much of that effort will actually be manifested in your paycheck? If you decide to invest one hour a year in bettering your life, how much improvement can you realistically expect to see? You control the change, and you control what you can realistically do in whatever it is you decide to change. To get the maximum return on your investment, you must give your maximum effort, or invest maximum action and get your maximum results! Are you ready to start living your life of purpose on purpose? This is not a reference to looking at the special someone and daydreaming about spending the rest of your life with them. This not talking about looking at pictures of your dream house, car or job and saying “one day they will be mine”. I am speaking of what are you doing to feed the flame, or better still, make your desire a reality? If you are interested in that special someone, have you let them know your feelings, or even learned enough about them to see if they are really who you think they are or what you created them to be. Have you researched what it would take for you to get that house, car or job? Feeding the flames of your desire means taking action to make your desire a part of your life. Of course, illegal, immoral or unethical activities are out, but all else is fair play. Stoke the fire of your desire until the flame burns bright enough to illuminate the path you must take for your dreams to come true. Get rid of those thoughts that suck the oxygen from your flames; negative thoughts of why you can’t do a certain thing, and replace them with the thoughts of why you can. There is a saying; glass half full, or half empty; who cares, I am happy to have a glass I can fill it with whatever I desire. Chase your dream, fuel the fire of your desires. It doesn’t matter how old you are; it is only too late when you are in the grave. There are people in their 80s graduating from college, learning how to salsa and even skydiving, so what’s stopping you. Fuel the flames. Let the fire and your desire become the thing that warms you inside and gives you that sense of purpose to live a life on purpose of purpose! Schedule your free discovery call today and start living your life of purpose on purpose. A life of comfort is the world dream. We never have to worry about anything; whatever we desire is immediately provided with little effort. We desire a life where all our needs are provided and most of our wants. This seems like the perfect life; but a life of pure comfort breeds apathy and lethargy. There is nothing wrong with being “comfortable”, but we must ensure our comfort does not skew our idea of what is acceptable. We may have a million dollars in the bank, but if we continually withdraw and never deposit, sooner or later the money will be gone and the life we lead will change. We lose weight and reach our goal, but if we don’t work to keep the weight off, because we can get into our skinny jeans, sooner or later, those skinny jeans will be hanging in the closet and we will once again utter those dreaded words “one day, I will get back into them”. When we get comfortable, we have a tendency to change our perspective from I have to work to get what I want, to now I have it, so why bother. In relationships, we work hard to show our love at the beginning and before long we get into a comfortable routine, and the fire that once drove us fizzles out. When we finished school, we were tenacious in our pursuit of our dream job, and once we get it, we are content to just put everything on cruise control where it is comfortable. In the analogy of sport, the comfort zone will never get you to the level you could possibly reach. The comfort zone can even cause you to lose skills you worked hard to sharpen, because you see no need to use them anymore. The comfort zone can make us lazy, and when something comes along we don’t particularly like; we accept it as long as it does not disturb our comfort zone. Comfort zones are fine to regroup and rest, but should never be a permanent habitation. When we retreat and live perpetually in our comfort zone; we won’t try no things, experience new sensations and could easily let the excitement of living life pass us by. When we leave our comfort zone, we can enter into a place called the Gift Zone. The Gift Zone is when we try new things, we discover new gifts and talents we never thought we had. There is a saying that “Necessity is the MOTHER of INVENTION” When we leave our comfort zones, we may find the need to try things we never have, and discover not only are we good at it, but we will wonder why did we wait so long to try something new. Life is for the living, and the comfort zone could easily cause us to quit living and just start existing. Live life to the fullest! Are you ready to start living your life of purpose on purpose? There is an old African proverb that states “together the ants ate the elephant”. An examination of this proverb reveals one ant may not be able to consume an elephant, but a group of ants together got the job done. We will face obstacles in our lives; that is a fact. We will experience challenges, there is no way around that. We will encounter what deem as impossible odds, a true statement. The thing we must remember is these challenges are only a “show stopper” if we let them be. We may be individualistic, with a desire to say “I DID THIS MYSELF”, but there is nothing wrong with learning from the practices and procedures of others to overcome whatever may be hindering you from reaching your goal. It is a matter of perspective. Thomas Edison used his failures as a litmus test of what not to do to be successful. In essence, he learned from his mistakes and eliminated those things that didn’t work, until he found what work, and now we have the light bulb. Scientists throughout recorded history review the failures and successes of others to develop new and improved medicines, technologies and inventions to enhance the quality of life. Why not use the same approach for whatever is hindering you from greatness? Want to be a fitness guru; find out the processes used by those you consider to have arrived. Have a desire to inspire others to greatness; look at what inspires you. As long as there is a will, as the saying goes, there is a way. Sometimes going around, over, under or just ignoring an obstacle is the way to deal with it. Ignoring an obstacle may not seem effective, but one situation that it works well for is when those that have no interest in your success decides to pour their non-factual opinions into your dreams as if they are the final authority. There is another proverb that states the best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time. Elephants are large beast and seem to be impossible to consume, but if we deal with our obstacles in manageable “bites”, they will be overcome and we will be successful in our endeavors! Growing up, cartoons were a wonderful pastime in which to spend Saturday mornings before the parents released you to go outside or go wherever your special place was for the weekend. As you watched the exploits of Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, or perhaps Superman or Wonder Woman was your flavor, you wondered how could they be superheroes, yet still be satisfied with their ordinary aspects of their lives when they weren’t saving the world. Many of us grow up trying to be like those superheroes; Superman, where nothing really fazes us. Wonder Woman who cannot be defeated by man or beast. We shy away from our Clark Kent and Diana Prince personalities to prove to the world we are the best there is, was and will ever be. Superman and Wonder Woman are fictional characters, so the question is; are you for real. If you are trying to be like them, are you being true to yourself? Are you just faking it to make it, or have you truly embraced who you are? Can people see the real you, or do they only see the image you portray? Many times people forget, Superman was who Clark Kent “used” to not detract from the life he chose. Wonder Woman left the island she was from to be who she really wanted to be, versus the pigeon-holed leader her home island decided she should be. Don’t hide from who you are; embrace it. If you don’t like who you are, then chase your dream and become the person you want to be. What’s stopping you besides FEAR and you? Never forget, Superman was a persona of Clark Kent, not Clark Kent a persona of Superman. Wonder Woman was a persona of Diana Prince, not the other way around.
The beautiful thing is, we don’t have a need of a superhero alter ego for the people we see every day; for many, if we would just be the best version of ourselves we can be; the best parent, sibling, leader, worker, or whatever it may be, we will find we are already a Superhero in someone’s eyes for just being real! The New Year is only about 180 days away, and usually after the summer ends, New Year resolutions began to consume the forefront of our mind. We didn’t look how we intended this year, so we purpose in our hearts to spend more time working out, eating right, and being healthy. Sometimes this “resolution” is spurred by a dreaded doctor visit, where we are told we have to start taking better care of ourselves. We know we “should”, but there are a lot of things we “should” do. We should clean the house. We should pay our bills. We should spend time with our significant other so they never have to wonder if they are loved and appreciated, but should is not the same thing as must. Until we shift our thinking about fitness from “should” to “must”, we will always have excuses as to why it is not done. We are all given 24 hours every day and how we use that 24 hours is based on our priorities.
We would not take a car and not take care of it, yet hoping it will start when we are ready to go. Why do we fail to give the same attention to our mental and physical health? Periodic maintenance on a car you depend on for transportation, or a house you depend on to live in is not a “should” but a “must”! The same thing goes for fitness; if you want to live a life of purpose on purpose, then you need to make sure your body, mind and soul are operating at peak efficiency for you. Fitness is never a “should”, but always a MUST! Are you ready to start living your life of purpose on purpose? Schedule a Free Discovery call with me today.
We often take things for granted and seldom stop to reflect on what we have to be grateful for. We live in a world where we constantly look at what we don’t have, have not achieved, and have yet to go or do. Perhaps we should look back on what we have accomplished so far, the storms we have weathered and the places we have been; not so much as what we have not done, but what has been done on our life list. When we refuse to lament the mistakes of the past, we can then appreciate our moment in time in our present. The idea that maybe a few years ago you dreamed about owning a car; we now own one; may not be what we want, but we have transportation now. Something to be grateful for. We may not own our dream home, but we are not homeless; and that’s something to be grateful for. We may not eat at the finest eating establishments, but just the other day we were saying how we need to go on a diet; something to be grateful for. It is easy to find reasons to complain, and it takes more muscles to frown than smile. Why not use the economy of muscles and smile as we look at the birds in the air. We have sight and can see the majestic birds as they are lifted in the air. Our complaints can lift us higher and spur us to greatness. We feel the wind on our face. That means the sensation of touch is still active in our lives, so we can breathe life and touch someone else’s life with a kind word or gesture. There are so many things to be grateful for; if nothing else, you no longer think defeat and now proclaim victory over every facet of your life. There is one thing about scars we often forget; the time of the injury hurt, and may mar our flesh, but we survived, and if we survived once, we can again; something to be grateful for. Look over your life and don’t spend time lamenting, connect with me and let's put your list of grateful ways to move forward
