The 1970s was known as the area of disco. I don’t know much about the disco phenomenon other than it sparked numerous memorial songs, some interesting fashion choices and the undulating beat of chasing your passion with every fiber of your being. There was a song called Disco Inferno, and the tag line was “Burn, baby Burn”. I’m not sure what they were talking about, but when it comes to the flame inside of you, the flame of passion you have for your dream, I say “BURN, BABY, BURN”!  Let nothing extinguish your flame of passion. It may take time. It may take sacrifice. It may take you leaving your comfort zone, but if you want it, go get it and let that passion BURN, BABY, BURN! There will be people that will tell you it can’t be done, shouldn’t be done, or it is not expedient or beneficial for you to even do. Instead of accepting their word as the final authority, make the decision yourself! Imagine if the person that invented the air conditioner gave up. How hot would it be during those steamy summer days? What about the person that invented ice cream? Everyone thought Ford was crazy with the idea of the horseless carriage. All of these things we now enjoy and think nothing about it, but each person had a passion to do something and they got it done. I have discovered people fall into two simple categories in my life; help and hindrance. I have discovered that someone against me can actually spur me on to prove them wrong, and someone that claims to help me can actually slow me down with their desire for me to do things the way they would. Let others live their dream and pursue their passions.
When you know what you want, go for it. Do the research, do comparative analysis on the best way to fulfill your passion, but let that passion flame “BURN BABY BURN”. Afraid your flame is flickering because it has burned so long with no additional fuel. Afraid your dream life is unobtainable, unreachable, or just not realistic? Talk to someone who has routinely defeated the impossible, made it possible. Someone who was told their goal is unobtainable and are currently living their dream. As long as you have breathe in your body, and the ability to “do”, chase your passion, chase your dream. The complexity of your life may make it a little more difficult. The responsibilities you have may make the pursuit of your passion a little more challenging, but it has been often said, anything worth having is worth working for. Want to be a painter? Take art classes and do it! Want to be a skydiver? Go to the training and do it! Want to just live life to the fullest and enjoy all it has to offer? What are you waiting for? Just do it! When we identify our passions and what we really want to do, we often feel it is impossible to do. There was a movie about a man who claimed to spend 90 minutes in heaven. He was in a major car accident and most had counted him dead. He lived, but they thought he would never walk again. His passion, his drive, his motivation, his desire to walk again had him walking out of the hospital in the time frame he spoke into existence. He had faith, and in his case, his faith sustained and kept him. Call it the universe returning, faith, fate, kismet, or whatever, speak your passions into existence by not just saying you want to do it, but you are doing it! Chase your dream! Chase your passion. Live, die, repeat. Great theory for a movie, but not for living a life of purpose on purpose. Life is not a video game, where if you don’t like where it is heading, you can hit the reset button and start over again. In reality, we have only one life to live. In reality, we live and die. The question is, during that period between your first breath and your last breath did you enjoy the full experience of life? Did you embrace life with both arms? There is a dash on tombstones between our birth date and date of death, so make that dash count! Don’t count how many breaths you take, but make every breath count! Set your goals. Live your goals. Enjoy your goals. Live. Reach your goals. Set new goals. Repeat. Let that be your mantra!  There is a television show called the Originals. I don’t know the premise of the show, but it brings to mind the original settlers and pioneers that settled this great nation of ours. They were not sure how things would turn out in the end, but they decided they wanted a better life and the best life had to offer. They decided to live a life of purpose on purpose. Was it hard? Yes! Was it taxing? Yes. Did they face challenges that made them want to give up? Most definitely! Did they give up? No, because if they had not decided to live a life of purpose, reach their goals and make their dreams a reality, this great country would not be what it is. Be a pioneer. Be a pilgrim. Be an adventurer. Reach out for life and grab it. Hold on to it and wrestled the best it has to give you from her grasp and ENJOY IT!
Today is the present. Yesterday is the past. Tomorrow is the future. Many people believe the future is already written and there is no use to trying to change what is fated to be. We hold the power to chart our future. The gods of mythology do not hold our fates in their hands, we do. We can’t change the choices we made yesterday, because that day is gone, it is in the past. We can make wise choices today. Today is the present and when we decide to embrace the fullness of life, by living a purpose driven life, we began to be fulfilled, happy and complete. When life gives you lemons, forget the old saying about making lemonade. Your success is predicated on your perspective. Not the lemons that sour the tongue, but the lemons that make the lemonade we enjoy on the hot summer days of life. Don’t let your dreams die, but do the things you need to do to give them life. Dare to live your dream! Don’t just exist, live life to the fullest!
