A life of comfort is the world dream. We never have to worry about anything; whatever we desire is immediately provided with little effort. We desire a life where all our needs are provided and most of our wants. This seems like the perfect life; but a life of pure comfort breeds apathy and lethargy. There is nothing wrong with being “comfortable”, but we must ensure our comfort does not skew our idea of what is acceptable. We may have a million dollars in the bank, but if we continually withdraw and never deposit, sooner or later the money will be gone and the life we lead will change. We lose weight and reach our goal, but if we don’t work to keep the weight off, because we can get into our skinny jeans, sooner or later, those skinny jeans will be hanging in the closet and we will once again utter those dreaded words “one day, I will get back into them”. When we get comfortable, we have a tendency to change our perspective from I have to work to get what I want, to now I have it, so why bother. In relationships, we work hard to show our love at the beginning and before long we get into a comfortable routine, and the fire that once drove us fizzles out. When we finished school, we were tenacious in our pursuit of our dream job, and once we get it, we are content to just put everything on cruise control where it is comfortable. In the analogy of sport, the comfort zone will never get you to the level you could possibly reach. The comfort zone can even cause you to lose skills you worked hard to sharpen, because you see no need to use them anymore. The comfort zone can make us lazy, and when something comes along we don’t particularly like; we accept it as long as it does not disturb our comfort zone. Comfort zones are fine to regroup and rest, but should never be a permanent habitation. When we retreat and live perpetually in our comfort zone; we won’t try no things, experience new sensations and could easily let the excitement of living life pass us by. When we leave our comfort zone, we can enter into a place called the Gift Zone. The Gift Zone is when we try new things, we discover new gifts and talents we never thought we had. There is a saying that “Necessity is the MOTHER of INVENTION” When we leave our comfort zones, we may find the need to try things we never have, and discover not only are we good at it, but we will wonder why did we wait so long to try something new. Life is for the living, and the comfort zone could easily cause us to quit living and just start existing. Live life to the fullest! Are you ready to start living your life of purpose on purpose?
