I have often heard the phrase “No Pain, No Gain”. I always wondered why endure pain in order to gain something. Is the thing I want to “gain” worth the pain? I have learned the “pain” may signify actual pain, but often refers to leaving your comfort zone. Our comfort zone is often the lifestyle that works best for us; the one where we do what we want, when we want, and how we want. Our diet consists of all our favorite foods in the quantities we love. Our daily routine is filled with what is convenient and comfortable for us. It has been said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. I have heard many people claim they want to be more physically fit, and they want to get in shape. I look at what they routinely do, I see their idea of getting into shape is simply this: the shape they desire is “round” since round is an actual shape. heir actions drown out their words. Their idea of working out is 20oz curls of their favorite sugary beverages, and their idea of cardio is running to the refrigerator or a thumb workout with a remote control or game controller. Most things are usually okay in moderation, but when the moderation exceeds what the body can take, then health issues occur.
Leading a healthy life style is a matter of choice, and the choice does not mean giving up EVERYTHING you enjoy. There is nothing wrong with having an occasional favorite beverage or food, but moderation is the key. Many times we don’t give our brain to sync with our bodies to tell us we have had enough. The pain to a healthy lifestyle is bearable but simple; get out of the comfort zone. You don’t have to drastically change your lifestyle, all at once, because if you do, it may not last. Cut down your sodas and replace with water or some other healthy alternative. Try to walk a little every day, and slowly increase the distance. Try to arrange your day to get adequate rest. Look for healthy choices that are palatable to you. It may be painful, but just like a pin prick hurts, making the changes in a realistic manner lessens the hurt, makes your comfort zone easier to leave, because you are developing a new paradigm, a new comfort zone, where you actually feel uncomfortable if you don’t get your exercise in, limit your indulges and began to see the actual GAIN from the minimal PAIN! Connect with me and start living your life of purpose on purpose.
